In Conversation with Illustrator Valentina Esposito

Valentina Esposito is an exciting, up-and-coming illustrator based in Italy. She has created a catalogue of drawings, which are both humorous and reflective, building up a distinctive style. While she is primarily an illustrator, she also helps others out by providing insightful tips on how they can improve their work through short info drawings for her following on Instagram. In this interview, we find out more about Valentina, and her creative endeavours…

1. How would you describe your illustrating style?

I don’t really know how to describe my style because it has changed a lot, it’s still changing and it’s different depending on the projects I’m working on! But I always try to incorporate vibrant colours and smooth shapes in them, I think these are the most reoccurring features 😀

2. What do you do to make your work stand out from others?

For sure there are some techniques that highlight the illustrator’s work (colors, lights etc…), but I think the concept of the project itself brings attention to the content.

Watch the other artists you like and try to understand what they are doing

3. What types of illustration work do you get from Fiverr?

I have worked with a lot of people over the years. The most common work I get are children books with different themes like: racism, love for the family, love for themselves… I am really happy to participate in these projects!

4. In your Instagram, you tend to do a lot of illustration tutorials. Any chance of you setting up an online course?

I have thought about it A LOT! And maybe at the beginning of the next year we’ll see something happening…

5. Which other illustrators do you admire?

I follow so many illustrators and each of them gives to me a little bit of their art, but my favourite artists are @Mrdanidiez, @Johnlorenart and how I can’t forget my teacher @scoppettandrea!

6. What advice would you give to aspiring illustrators?

I can give them the easiest advice ever:  be consistent, be hungry of knowledge, watch the other artists you like and try to understand what they are doing. Don’t give up!

7. Future plans?

I want to open an online course or maybe a Patreon and spend more time on my personal projects to create more interesting stuff!
