In Conversation with J. D. Netto
J. D. Netto has inspired and delighted readers from across the world. Not only has he written 6 books, one of which was an Amazon bestseller, but he has also been involved in the making of movie adaptations of novels such as Love, Simon and The Hate U Give. He has broadened his knowledge of his craft by being involved in projects like ‘Saved by the Page’, a testament to the profound impact books can have on readers, and has designed covers for books like the New York Times Bestseller, Zenith: The Androma Saga. In light of the announcement of his latest publication, The Broken Miracle: Part One, we decided to see what he has to say about his career…
1. How did you start out writing?
I’ve always been a creative person. When I was a kid, I learned how to draw and memorized the words as if they were pictures. Storytelling has always been a passion of mine. But it was around 2006 when I started to surrender to the other worlds inside me. I truly embraced this mission when I had the idea for my first series, The Whispers of the Fallen.
2. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Life. I observe people, situations, and places. I am always the one putting a puzzle together in my head. The root of a situation fascinates me; the growing branches stir my curiosity. Music also helps when I am creating.
3. Which was your favourite book to write?
You ask a hard question! I can’t choose between my kids. I will say that Henderbell was a breath of fresh air.
4. What do you do to motivate yourself?
Remember that books and art allow me to connect with thousands of people.
Have the courage to spend time alone with a blank page. You’ll never be able to run from it
5. How long does it take to write a book?
It all depends. I wrote Henderbell in a year. My first book, The Whispers of the Fallen, took me six years to finish. My upcoming duology, The Broken Miracle, will be completed soon, which will have me working at it for almost two years.
6. What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Have the courage to spend time alone with a blank page. You’ll never be able to run from it.
7. What are your plans for the future?
I have a very special release happening around the holidays this year. Not to mention that you’ll soon be able to pre-order The Broken Miracle: Part One! And if COVID is merciful, I am scheduled to appear at BookCon 2021.
