Fashion, Queens and Glamour: Meet Fashion Illustrator Laerttes
Laerttes is a Brazilian fashion illustrator, known for his powerful, queen-like depictions of models. His voluminous designs have attracted attention from many brands including Vogue and Moschino, and even singers Madonna, Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue! Here, we take a look at his work and how he has come to be where he is today…
1. How did you start?
When I was a child I loved to draw and with time I developed into who I am today. Since 2014, I have been illustrating professionally in fashion.
2. Who is your favorite designer?
I’d say Gianni Versace, Zuhair Murad, and Elie Saab.
3. How should you make your work stand out from others?
I really believe that our work has to reflect our soul. Be real… show the world that you understand aesthetics and expression. When you are designing, you should research different materials, be daring in the textures you choose, and do something that vibrates in the eyes!

4. Which model do you like to draw the most?
I like to illustrate voluminous looks, with fabric trim effect, textures and colourful prints. The more elaborate the look, the more interesting the illustration gets, with layers of textures overlapping. Lush looks with a queen look!
5. How long does it take to illustrate a piece?
It depends, from an hour and a half to 2 days depending on the piece.
6. What advice would you give aspiring illustrators on Instagram?
Don’t be intimidated, show your work, share your ideas! I believe that we live in a world where we must take advantage of the opportunities we receive.

7. What are your future plans?
I’m focusing on my art now, on bringing it closer to people’s lives. I’m thinking about opening a brand with some product lines … everything is being planned with love!
